Many moons ago the dragon king of the seas – Lac Long Quan – met Princess Au Co – an immortal from the high mountains. He saved her when she was in the form of a fragile crane being chased by a monstrous black bird.
They fell in love and one year after their marriage she gave birth. But no ordinary child was born to the king and queen. Au Co gave birth to a golden sac containing 100 eggs. From these eggs hatched 100 sons. The descendants of the dragon king and the high mountain princess founded a land they called Van Lang, the place we today know as Vietnam.
